Together for Care: Giving Tuesday - Virtual Fundraiser Event

Anu and Courtenay warmly invite you to celebrate Giving Tuesday, the world's largest movement dedicated to supporting beloved charities. We are launching our fundraising campaign for the Nanaimo Hospital & District Foundation, running until December 2, 2025. All funds raised will be donated directly to the foundation.

Your generosity can help fund critical projects, and these investments mean shorter wait times, better diagnoses, and brighter outcomes for those you care about most.

Every gift matters. Every dollar makes a difference.

Please join us in building a healthier future for Nanaimo and Central Vancouver Island.

Celebrate, empower, inspire.

International Women’s Day Nanaimo (@iwdnanaimo) was created in 2017, founded by Courtenay Ndiaye and Anu Mayer. This is a volunteer organization that brings women together once a year in the month of March to celebrate, empower, and inspire. The event is for women to enjoy a few hours with their girlfriends, sisters, mothers, daughters, and colleagues but most importantly – to have fun and show appreciation for one another.

The Nanaimo Sisterhood Fund was created in 2020. This is a dynamic fund to support and impact women and girls in our community. Proceeds raised at events will be donated to local areas of impact and needs.

The Bob and Dorothy Rowledge Fund

Bob and Dorothy Rowledge Fund

Celebrating a legacy in the Arts.

The Bob and Dorothy Rowledge Fund at Nanaimo Foundation honors the enduring legacy of the late Bob Rowledge, while celebrating the ongoing commitment of Dorothy Rowledge to the arts. Established in memory of Mr. Rowledge, who dedicated years of service as a volunteer for the Mid-Island Performing Arts Festival, this fund will support the Festival's endeavors with an annual grant.

Established in 1928, the annual Mid-Island Performing Arts Festival (formerly the Upper Island Musical Festival) has a rich history as a cornerstone of Nanaimo’s music and arts scene. Over the decades, it has provided a platform for countless performers to showcase their talents in music, drama, and dance.

A significant contributor to the Festival’s success has been Dorothy Rowledge, who dedicated 60 years of her time and service to its events, with Bob’s support. Bob and Dorothy’s shared passion for nurturing local talent and fostering artistic excellence remains a vibrant force in our community, uplifting performers and enriching cultural experiences in Nanaimo for years to come.

Among many other volunteer positions across various community service organizations in Nanaimo, Mr. Rowledge was a founding board member of Nanaimo Foundation.

We invite those who share our dedication to supporting the arts to contribute to the Bob and Dorothy Rowledge Fund and help us continue their legacy of cultural enrichment.

About Us

The Port Theatre Society is a charitable not-for-profit organization and, together with the City of Nanaimo, co-manages the Port Theatre, a community performing arts centre located on the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, in the heart of Nanaimo on Central Vancouver Island.

The theatre is a rental venue and important gathering place which serves as a home for many professional arts organizations, promoters, and community groups. Situated on Canada’s western edge, the theatre is a strategically important stop on the touring circuit where many national tours either begin or end their journey.

Your Gift

As a registered charity, donations are a critical part of what makes everything we do possible. Our endowment fund exists to steward your gift in perpetuity, supporting our organization’s needs beyond our annual fund and creating a source of reliable income that can act as a security blanket through both successful and uncertain times.

Your gift will support emerging artists through our Discovery Series, the incredible artistic talent of every Spotlight performance, outreach programs that bring live performance to people from across the mid-island region, and the general operations of the theatre you know and love.

Creating childhood memories for local kids in need.

We believe that growing up as a kid should be remembered as a time full of care-free and rewarding experiences. However, many local kids in communities across British Columbia and Alberta come from families in need, where once-in-a-lifetime experiences like a week away at summer camp are just not a financial priority.

Created in 2018 to honour Tom Harris’ legacy as a family man and community leader in philanthropy, the Tom Harris Fund for Families helps create childhood memories that last a lifetime for local kids from families in need.

How we've helped so far

  • $180,000 contributed to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign since 2018, which sends local kids to camp from across BC and Alberta.
  • 1000+ Kids have gone to summer camp since 2018 who wouldn’t have otherwise had the opportunity due to financial hardship.
  • 8 committed Tom Harris Cellular team members went skydiving in 2018 to raise donations for the Fund for Families.
  • 90+ committed Tom Harris Cellular team members rode bikes continuously for 24 hours to raise donations for the Fund for Families in 2019.
  • 150+ committed Tom Harris Cellular team members participated in 8 weekly fitness challenges in 2021 for the Fund for Families.
  • 20+ committed Tom Harris Cellular team members and their families took on a challenge to ride a mechanical bull multiple times in 2023.
